One of the biggest changes affecting local high school football in 2013 are some classification changes made by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA).

The NYSPHSAA approved using a graduated scale for consolidation of teams between two different schools.

In the past, when two or more schools combined for one sports, their enrollment numbers were added together to determine which classification they would play in.

The new scale takes the enrollment numbers from the school with the higher enrollment and a percentage from the smaller school to determine a classification.

The graduated scale is AA 50%, A 40%, B30%, C 30%, and D 20%.

This change has affected our Class C and D teams tremendously for the 2013 season.

Class C has gone from four leagues to three as the C South was dissolved.

The C East consists of Clinton, Frankfort-Schuyler, Holland Patent, Little Falls, Mount Markham, Notre –Dame/Rome Catholic and Sherburne-Earlville.

The C North features Adirondack, APW, General Brown, Watertown IHC, Lowville, and Thousand Islands which has merged with LaFargeville and Alexandria Bay for football.

The C West includes Bishop Ludden, Canastota, Hannibal, Syracuse Institute of Technology, Jordan-Elbridge, Port Byron-Union Springs, and Skaneateles.

Class D had the biggest shift in teams due to the new scale.

The D East includes Cooperstown, Dolgeville, Herkimer, Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton, Sauquoit Valley, Waterville-Madison, and West Canada Valley.

The D Central is composed of Beaver River, NewYork Mills, Oriskany, Pulaski, Sandy Creek, South Lewis, and Westmoreland.

The D West includes Bishop Grimes, Cato-Meridian, LaFayette/Fabius Pompey, Onondaga, Tully, and Weedsport.

The schedule was released today, and My Hometown Sports has it.

Well sports fans let’s hope the spring weather will arrive soon and usher in another beautiful summer when football season begins.
