WEEK 10 WITH BIG BLUE-MIKE BILINSKI GAME PREVIEWS-PLAYOFF EDITION

Big Blue-Mike Bilinski

Week 10 preview

Well sports fans as the saying goes and then there were two. Yes we are down to our last two local teams in this seasons High School Football playoffs. Get to the dome or get to your Radio to catch these two very interesting games this weekend.

Section III Class C Championship

Class C2 Champion Herkimer Magicians 8-1 Vs. Class C1 Champion Skaneateles Lakers 9-0

The Magicians and Lakers were to meet last season in the class C sectional final until the Lakers were disqualified.

This season the Lakers look for redemption and Herkimer looks to make it two in a row as these state ranked Class C powers meet. Both teams are led this season by the play of their outstanding quarterbacks.

The Lakers Connor Herr has passed for almost 1500 yards on the season and rushed for nearly 350. His go to receivers include Jake Cooney with 567 yards, Steven Bright with 304 and Colin Jones with 251.

On the ground look for running back Max Weiss with 700 yards rushing to carry some of the load. The Magicians have also had a magic season from their QB Austin Mills.

Mills has passed for nearly 450 yards and rushed for 400. His go to receiver is Adrian Viscomi with 180 receiving.

Running back Matt Borek with 500 yards on the ground leads the Magicians rushing attack.

Both of these teams do many of the same things on offense. They throw and run the ball well.

They like to spread the field and allow their QB to pick a hole and exploit the defense.

They are both physical on defense and like to blitz and pressure the QB. The team that holds on to the ball makes the least penalties and mistakes will come away with the win. Expect this game to come down to a score late in the game. With two teams this evenly matched anyone can come out on top.

Section III Class D Championship

#6 Westmoreland Bulldogs 6-2 Vs. #1 Sandy Creek Comets 9-0-MHTS Friday Night Lights Game of the Week on ESPN Radio!

The Westmoreland Bulldogs look to repeat as sectional champs when they take on the Sandy Creek Comets.

These two teams met in week 6 with the Comets coming out on top 21-19. The Bulldogs have been led all season by QB Zach Green.

Last week in their semi-final win over West Canada 37-20 Green rushed for 139 yards and two scores and kicked three field goals.

Running back Tim Harrison added 103 yards on the ground and two scores. The Comets ran past the Weedsport Warriors 28-7. Power back Mason McNitt rushed for 135 yards and four scores and fullback John Shirley chipped in 114 in the win.

Both teams love to run the football yet are very different in their execution. The Bulldogs will run option and try to confuse the defense.

They love to get you going one direction and come back the other. They also tackle extremely well on defense.

The Comets behind a big offensive line will come out of the I formation and run downhill at you.

Both like to trap the ball with very good fullbacks. The team that gets that momentum and rhythm off the line of scrimmage will come away with the win.

Expect this game, much like the first one, to go back and forth as momentum changes.

The team that has that late fourth quarter push will come away with the win and the title.

This game could go either way and will also be a fun one to watch especially if you love power football.

Well sports fans this is it. The sectional title is on the line. Who will come away with a sectional title and a chance to represent Section III in the NYS State Football tournament?

A lot is on the line so hop in the car and head to the Dome or if you can’t make it tune into ESPN Radio and listen to some of our local athletes lay it all on the line to make their Gridiron dream come true.
