The Generals entered today’s match on quite a roll, winning their first 8 games of the season by a combined score of 38-1, good enough to be ranked #2 in the most recent NJCAA Division III National Poll.

MVCC traveled to Herkimer with a great start of their own to the 2011 campaign, with a record of (8-1-1), with their lone loss to North Country CC, 3-1 on Monday.

MVCC's Armin Budjno (10) (Utica, NY) watches as Herkimer's Devarr Pedlar (8) (Brooklyn, NY) flies toward a loose ball in first half action.

The Hawks started play today as the #7 ranked team in the NJCAA Division III poll.

The first half of play saw the extremely fast and technically sophisticated Generals move the ball with precision and generate multiple scoring opportunities in the MVCC end.

MVCC keeper Shane Connelly (Wolcott, NY) make some excellent point blank saves. The MV keeper got some help from his goal’s cross bar with 4:18 remaining in the first half when Herkimer’s Reco McLaren (Bridgeport, CT) hit a laser beam from inside the box, which hit the bar and rebounded harmlessly away to keep the teams tied at 0-0.

At the other end HCCC keeper Davion Bailey (Brooklyn, NY) used his 6’3″ frame to his advantage ranging high several time for first half saves.

No substitute for square inches....6 foot 3 inch keeper Davion Bailey (top of heap, in red) recorded his 5th shutout for the Generals this season.

Herkimer outshot Mohawk Valley 6 to 4 in the first half, but the two teams were scoreless after the first 40 minutes of play.

A soaking rain settled into Wehrum Stadium during the intermission, which made the artificial surface super slick and slowed play down considerably as opposed to the rapid pace of play in the first 40 minutes.

While the majority of the action was at midfield for the entire second half, Herkimer finally broke through late in the second half with back to back goals, less than 3 minutes apart, from freshman Craig McCabe (Dundee, Scotland) to seal the 2-0 win for Herkimer.

Connelly finished the game with 8 saves on 10 shots for Mohawk Valley, while Bailey stopped 5 balls for HCCC.

With the win, HCCC improves to (9-0), while MVCC dropped their second straight contest to fall to (8-2-1).

HCCC's Korab Syla (24) (Yonkers, NY) changes direction against MV's Tyler Deluca (12) (Glenville, NY).
